WW2 U.S. Navy Sailor Portrait
This is a nice studio portrait of a young sailor that was taken at Avery Studio -20 Scollay Square, Boston, MA. This area was first mapped out in the early 1720s, and it was a major commercial center in the city of Boston. Scollay Square had become a hot spot for sailors on liberty and local college students who visited the numerous bars, burlesque theaters, liquor stores, and cheap restaurants that had found a home here as things declined in this part of the city. Over 1,000 buildings and structures were razed in the 1950s to make way for redevelopment and the construction of the Government Center Complex and the JFK Federal Building which now stand in the footprint of the old Scollay Square.
This is a nice little folding portrait which measures approximately 7-1/4" tall and 4" wide when closed. It shows signs of age and storage, but a solid image and folding frame. No rips or tears.
